Sheep Moving Day

Friday 3rd November

Sheep moving day!

The girls have been in their field for a week now, so needed to be moved on to the next field. It keeps the grass from becoming over grazed and keeps the girls healthy. Rotating their grazing has improved the grass over the last three years – so more wild flowers and different kinds of grasses. No chemicals or fertilisers, just moving the sheep regularly from one field to another. Good for the girls and for all the other wild creatures who live there. This summer I was amazed at how many grasshoppers and different types of butterflies I saw in the fields.

Ivy, Emily and Martha needed no encouragement to move to the next field – they knew exactly what was happening! Even better, the sun was shining. They tumbled enthusiastically through the gate, and it was heads down straight away on the fresh grass. Happy sheep!
